RENEWAL FOR MANUAL USE BEGINS SEPTEMBER 1

POLICY FOR SITE SPECIFIC JOBS:

You must renew with me annually to qualify for Site Specific Services. All Site Specific jobs sent to me for review and seal must have a completed Design Check List with the drawing. I have 11" x 17" pages to put with your drawings so you do not need to make copies from the book. If you normally have a lot of Site Specific Jobs I can send you 11" x 17" drawings for your use. We are getting more efficient in our turn around time primarily because we are getting better drawings. Thank you.

ENGINEERS REPORT:

For those who have not heard, the Florida Board of Engineers ruled that Master File Systems should not be used for Aluminum Structure Permitting. Fortunately, the board has rescinded this order and is in the process of developing new rules to govern Master File Systems.

Part of the reasoning behind the board’s action to ban Master File Systems is the quality of permit drawings turned in by contractors for examination. The drawings have left too much to the imagination of examiners and inspectors. Therefore, plans and permits must be prepared properly if Master File Systems will be allowed in the future. Some building departments already require that all jobs be site specific and I have developed guidelines to help contractors through the design process of preparing these jobs. These Design Procedures and Design Check Lists are intended to be used with my Aluminum Structures Design Manual as an aid for preparing permit packages.

I can send these Design Procedures and Check Lists by mail or email. They are also included in the ASDM. We also offer the 11x17 version of the ASDM on CD. This version will also include a DXF of my title block for you to make your drawings on. The CD’s will cost $50 per section of the manual.
